AMURT (AMCH) is an international organization for development cooperation and disaster relief. Today, more than three decades since it was established by Shrii P. R. Sarkar, AMURT, registered under the Societies Registration Act 1961, is a global network spread over 160 countries. Our broad international picsence enables us to respond to disasters almost anywhere in the world. Guided by common principles and conduct codes, our grass-root level independent teams around the world, allow us to be sensitive to local cultural needs and flexible in our disaster responsiveness. And yet, the different AMURT chapters, or AMURTEL for women-managed projects, have the possibility of getting technical support from experienced AMURT members in other countries. Decisions on project selection and project funding are locally made. There are no financial obligations either towards other AMURT chapters or toward an international body. AMURT's work has expanded to include development work.
Development cooperation means to create conditions where by all people can work to fulfil the basic necessities of life. It is the people through their own efforts, who learn to meet their own fundamental needs of nourishment, clothings, medical assistance, accommodation and education.

 |
| Within the area of development work, Shrii P. R. Sarkar introduced the concept of the ALL ROUND SERVICE PROJECTS (ARS). He selected a few, poverty-stricken and disaster-prone areas where there would be a need to provide the fundamental necessities of life on an on-going basis. Accordingly the A.R.S. Projects provide food, clothes, medical care and education on a regular basis to the people in these areas. |
